Finalist: Jamilyn Manning-White, Soprano

Jamilyn Manning-White

American soprano Jamilyn Manning-White, praised for her delightful and contagious stage personality as well as her charming, superb singing, is becoming recognized as one of the most promising young sopranos of her generation.

During the 2010-2011 season with Yale Opera, she has sung Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas, and the title role in Anna Bolena in their opera scenes program. Last summer, Ms. Manning-White returned as a Young American Artists singing Mrs. Jenks, covering Laurie in Copland's The Tender Land and reappeared in concert with Steven Blier and the New York Festival of Song. The summer of 2009, Ms. Manning-White made her debut as Clorinda in La Cenerentola with Glimmerglass Opera and made her New York Festival of Song Latin Lovers concert debut with Steven Blier. Ms. Manning-White has performed La Fée in Massenet's Cendrillon, Najade in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos, and Mademoiselle Silberklang in Mozart's Der Schauspieldirektor. She has sung the title role of Moore's The Ballad of Baby Doe, Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury, Polly in the world premiere of Turin's The Scarecrow and Laetitia in the English National Tour of Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief.

Equally at home in concert, Ms. Manning-White has performed in Handel's Messiah, most recently with the Waterbury Symphony, Haydn's The Creation, Milhaud's Quatre Chansons de Ronsard, Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale and appeared in a concert tour with the Teatro Nacional de Santa Ana of El Salvador.

Ms. Manning-White has been an honored recipient of numerous competitions and awards. In 2009, she was awarded the first-prize winner of the Music Teacher National Association, the National Association for Teachers of Singing and was a Western Region Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. In 2008, Ms. Manning-White was the winner of the most promising President's Award of the José Iturbi International Music Competition. Moreover, she has received awards and honors from the Opera Index, Inc. Competition, the Judy Hellam Music Foundation and the Palm Springs Voice Competition. This summer, Ms. Manning-White will be competing in the Hugo Kauder International Competition and returns this fall to finish her Artist Diploma with Yale Opera.
