Competitions and Events

In 2003, the Hugo Kauder Society established an International Music Competition to provide opportunities for young musicians to present and in some cases even premiere Hugo Kauder's music, as well as rewarding excellence in performing from the classical repertoire.

Each competition features a different instrument, reflecting the wide variety of instruments and ensemble groupings for which Kauder composed:
2011: Voice
2010: String Quartet
2009: Flute, Oboe, and Clarinet
2008: Piano
2006: Cello
2005: French Horn
2004: String Quartet

Competitions are open to young musicians around the world who are 35 or younger as of the live competition date. New competitions are usually announced in the winter, with recordings for the preliminary round due in the spring. Finalists are then invited to compete live in New Haven in late summer, and the winners perform in a concert the next day.

Winners receive cash grants and performance opportunities in New York City. In addition, all finalists are profiled on our website and receive a recording of their performance and financial assistance with travel to and from New Haven.
