Minjung Chun

 

Violist Minjung Chun was born in South Korea, where she attended Yewon Arts School and Seoul Arts High School. She earned the Bachelor of Music degree at Korean National University of Arts, and the Master of Music degree and Artist Diploma at Yale University School of Music, where she studied with Ettore Causa. The recipient of numerous prizes and awards, she was top prizewinner in the Korean National Journal Competition and First Prize Winner of the Korean Chamber Orchestra Competition in Strings as well as receiving top prizes in several Korean newspaper competitions. She was chosen to perform with the Yewon Orchestra, and appeared as soloist with the Rumanian National Orchestra. Her first solo recital was as a winner of the Kumho Young Artist auditions. As a chamber player, she was presented in a Kumho chamber music concert in Korea, and performed with the Tokyo String Quartet at the Norfolk Music Festival. She was invited to the Primrose International Viola Competition and participated in the Summit Music Festival as well. She was invited to perform for the Winners Recital of American Protégé at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. She is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Boston University, studying with Michelle LaCourse.
