2006 Finalists Biographies


The following biographies were compiled for the competition in 2006. For more current information, please contact the musicians.

Patrick Jee
Mr. Jee’s solo career has taken him across the United States, Canada, Asia, and Europe with engagements with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Edmonton Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, and the National Orchestra of Toulouse. He has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Herbst Theatre, the Kennedy Center, the United Nations, and Wigmore Hall. Mr. Jee is an avid supporter of contemporary music, having already made many premieres and commissions. Some works include: Ezra Laderman’s Fantasy for Solo Cello (1998), which can be heard on the Albany Records label; Evocation, by James Ra; and Anthony Newman’s Suite for Solo Cello (2005). Mr. Jee holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Juilliard School and a Master of Music from Yale School of Music where he studied with Aldo Parisot.

Ashley Bathgate
Ms. Bathgate is studying for her Masters at Yale School of Music, under Aldo Parisot. A graduate of Bard College, she has performed as a soloist with the American Symphony Orchestra, Leon Bostein conducting, and has appeared with other ensembles in the US, Canada and Europe.

Ana Kim

Ms. Kim started playing the cello at age 3. In 1995, she was the Junior Division competition winner of the American String Teachers Association of New Jersey and she received, twice, the Young Artist Performers Award from the Associated Music Teachers League. She has also participated in many music festivals including the Manchester International Cello Festival and the Verbier Academy. In 2005, she was the winner of the Concerto Competition at Indiana University and performed with the IU Symphony Orchestra. Ana is currently a senior and pursuing an Artist Diploma with Janos Starker at IU.
