The manager works on average one day/week, interacting with board members, musicians, scholars, peer organizations, the media, music publishers, and the managers of performance venues. The job entails responding to general inquiries, some research in Kauder’s archives (Yale, NYPL, Austria National Library etc), basic grant writing and reporting (working the Board Treasurer), an annual appeal, semi-annual newsletter, basic bookkeeping, ongoing website updates and bi-monthly social media. The right candidate will also be interested in assuming responsibility for developing collaborations with organizations, venues, and musicians with shared interests.  Kauder’s output spans over 200 works, from chamber music to orchestral music, lieder, and an opera. His 1924 Symphonie #1 received its US Premiere in Fall 2022 at Carnegie Hall and Bard’s Fisher Center.

Some experience in arts administration (PR, artist-management, IP rights, fundraising) is required. Knowledge of German a big plus. Must be available for occasional meetings in NY and New Haven; most of the work can be done remotely.

Based in New Haven, CT since 2003, the Society is part of the growing “Recovered Voices” movement which brings fresh attention to the work of composers who were denied access to audience and institutional support during the Third Reich regime. Kauder was active in Vienna through the 1930s, fled to Holland in 1938, and settled in NY in 1940. He had residencies at Black Mountain College, University of Chicago and won a Fromm Foundation award, which led to the scholarly book Counterpoint (Macmillan, 1960).
